The Cognitive Science Students' Circle

The Cognitive Science Students' Circle

The Cognitive Science Students' Circle (KNSK) at the Jagiellonian University brings together students and doctoral students interested in various aspects of the cognitive sciences. The members of the Circle pose questions about the nature of the human mind, human cognitive functioning and the possibilities of modelling human cognition from an interdisciplinary perspective, combining many disciplines; psychology, neuroscience, linguistics and philosophy, artificial intelligence, mathematics and statistics.

About the Scientific Circle of Cognitive Science Students [KNSK].

The Scientific Circle of Cognitive Science Students (KNSK) at the Jagiellonian University brings together students and doctoral students interested in various aspects of the cognitive sciences. The members of the Circle ask themselves questions about the nature of the human mind, human cognitive functioning and the possibilities of modelling human cognition. The cognitive approach to the problem of the human mind used by the members of the Circle is an interdisciplinary approach that combines psychology, neuroscience, linguistics and philosophy, as well as computer science, artificial intelligence, mathematics and statistics. Thus, the members of the Circle aim to obtain a comprehensive education in order to then be able to seek answers to the questions posed earlier. In the Circle you can find enthusiasts from all areas of cognitive science, but the topics of our work mainly include issues from psychology, neuroscience and computer science.

The KNSK supports students from Cognitive Science and other disciplines in developing their passions and interests in the cognitive sciences, but also in pursuing a career in science.

KNSK activities in recent years

Among the main activities of the KNSK were the Circle's sections, the organisation of scientific conferences and special lectures. The sections of the Circle were divided into general sections, which operated on the principle of discussion clubs (Kogniak), and specialised sections, focused on developing the particular interests of Circle members (Meta-Science Section, Exmind). The KNSK organised two scientific conferences: the international Cracow Cognitive Science Conference (CCSC) and the nationwide Open Polish Science (OPOS). In addition, the KNSK tried to popularise science by organising special lectures in the "Meet our scientists" series and by publishing posts on the Circle's Facebook page in the #CS_Student_Reading_Prompt series to encourage observers to read the latest scientific articles published by the scientific journal Trends in Cognitive Sciences.

What does the KNSK offer?

- CCSC conferences: we organise conferences related to cognitive science. The next conference, now in its fourteenth year, will take place on 8-9 March 2025 and will focus on the theme of identity, attempting to answer the question , "Who am I?".
- Seminars with lecturers: the Circle has a long history of organising seminars led by our lecturers to deepen knowledge and discuss current research.
- Promotion of cognitive science: We actively promote cognitive science by organising a variety of events, workshops and meetings where you can meet people with similar interests.
- Meeting other cognitive science enthusiasts: The Circle is a great place to make new friends on the trips we organise that are a staple of scientific life.

How to join the Circle?

Joining the Circle is possible throughout the year. Students from our University as well as from other universities are welcome to join. The best way to contact us is by using the communication channels below or by coming to one of our meetings.
