Dr Artur Gunia – computer scientist, philosopher, and cognitive scientist; assistant professor at the Centre for Cognitive Science, Jagiellonian University. He serves as the head of the Cognitive Science program and coordinator of the Virtual Reality Laboratory (VR Lab). He holds master’s degrees in Computer Science and Econometrics from the University of Economics in Katowice and in Philosophy from the University of Silesia. He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Jagiellonian University with a dissertation titled “Cognitive Enhancement in the Transhumanist Context: Theory, Practice, and the Consequences of Cognitive Technologies for the Human Being.”
His research focuses on the use of advanced information technologies to enhance human capabilities—particularly improving cognitive functions, expanding sensory perception, and modulating emotions. His projects combine elements of artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and wearable technologies, exploring innovative ways to support human development and well-being.
Beyond his academic work, he enjoys an active and balanced lifestyle: walking in spring, cycling in summer, listening to vinyl records in autumn, and skiing in winter.
